This is a gothic ring reviving, the Roman signet ring known as Brancaster type after the Roman fort where they were discovered. That form is also known as Henig type XV. They are signet rings worn by Roman elite at the time. This Gothic ring emulated the form (uniform width rounded face band with an inscribe raised square bezel). In this instance, the bezel is inscribed with a cross. Some wear from its time of use and professionally refurbished with the silver surface restored.
